Frequently asked questions
Short, straight answers about buying, installing and living with a Roamlu eSIM. Browse by topic below — and if your question is not here, our team is one message away, day or night.
Getting started
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone as software, so there is no plastic chip to insert, swap or misplace. When you buy a Roamlu plan we send you a QR code by email within minutes; scan it once and a new mobile line appears on your device. Your usual SIM stays put, so you keep your home number and your travel data on the same phone.
Most phones released in the last few years support eSIM, including recent iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and many others, and your phone must also be carrier-unlocked. The quickest check is to open your device settings and look for an option to add an eSIM or a second cellular plan. If you are unsure, message us with your exact model before you buy and we will confirm in a minute or two.
Install while you are still on Wi-Fi at home, before you travel. Open your phone's cellular settings, choose to add an eSIM, and either scan the QR code from your Roamlu email or tap the install link if you are reading it on the same phone. That is the whole setup — there is nothing to collect at the airport and no shop to visit.
If you installed the eSIM before flying, you are usually online within a minute of switching your phone off airplane mode. Your plan does not start counting down until it first connects to a network at your destination, so installing early never wastes a day. Just make sure data roaming is switched on for the Roamlu line and your device will find a local partner network on its own.
Plans and coverage
Plans come in fixed data amounts and in unlimited-data options, so you can match the trip. A few gigabytes covers maps, messaging and the occasional video for a short trip, while heavier streamers and remote workers tend to prefer unlimited. Every plan page shows the exact allowance and validity before you pay.
Unlimited plans give you a generous daily amount of data at full speed. Once you pass that daily amount, you stay connected at a reduced speed rather than being cut off, so messaging and maps keep working. The full-speed allowance resets automatically every 24 hours, so each day of your trip starts fresh and fast.
A country eSIM covers a single destination and is ideal when your whole trip stays in one place. A regional eSIM covers a group of countries under one plan, which is the better choice for a Gulf tour or a multi-stop itinerary. If you are visiting two or three neighbouring countries, a regional plan usually works out simpler and cheaper than buying several country eSIMs.
Yes, on plans that list hotspot or tethering as included you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a travel companion's phone. On unlimited plans, hotspot traffic draws from the same daily full-speed allowance as your own use. The plan page always states whether hotspot is supported, so check there before you rely on it.
A regional Roamlu eSIM is designed to roam across every country in its zone without you changing anything between borders. When you cross into another covered country, your phone simply connects to a local partner network and your plan keeps running. For destinations outside your plan's zone you would add a separate eSIM for that leg of the trip.
Billing and top-ups
You can pay with major credit and debit cards, and popular digital wallets are supported at checkout on most devices. There is no subscription and no auto-renewal — you pay once for the plan you choose. You will always see the full price before you confirm, with no surprise fees added afterwards.
Prices are set with Gulf travellers in mind and are shown clearly at checkout before you pay. Your bank handles any conversion to your card's home currency using its own exchange rate. If you ever have a question about a charge, send us the order details and we will explain it line by line.
Open the Roamlu app or sign in to your account, pick the eSIM you are using, and choose a top-up. It applies to your existing eSIM instantly, so there is no new QR code to scan and nothing to reinstall. Your connection is not interrupted, which means you can top up mid-trip without dropping offline.
Your live balance sits in the Roamlu app and on your online account page, showing data used, days left and any bundled calling minutes. We also send you a heads-up by email when your data is running low. That way you can top up before you run out rather than after.
If an eSIM has not been installed or used, contact us and we will sort out a refund for that unused plan. If something is not working after installation, reach out before doing anything else — most issues are a quick settings fix, and if we cannot get you online we will make it right. Our team reviews every refund request individually and replies fast.
Roamlu extras
Yes — Roamlu bundles VoIP calling so you can make and receive calls over your data connection, without hunting for a local calling plan. It is handy for confirming a hotel, calling a driver or reaching family back home. Your bundled minutes appear alongside your data in the app so you always know where you stand.
An optional VPN is available as an add-on for travellers who want an extra layer of privacy on public and hotel Wi-Fi. It encrypts your connection so your browsing stays your own, which is especially useful when you are working on the move. It is entirely optional — turn it on only when you want it.
The Roamlu AI travel advisor is a built-in assistant that helps you pick the right plan and answers on-the-ground travel questions in plain language. Ask it how much data a week of maps and messaging needs, or which regional plan fits your route, and it will guide you. It is there to make choosing and using your eSIM effortless, not to replace our human team — you can always reach a real person too.
Account and support
You can buy in a couple of minutes with just an email address, and we send your QR code straight to your inbox. Creating an account is optional but recommended, because it lets you manage eSIMs, top up and track your balance from one place. There are no forms to fill in and no ID or passport scan required to get started.
We are here 24/7, every day of the year. The fastest ways to reach us are live chat on the site or in the app, and WhatsApp — which many of our Gulf travellers prefer. For anything more detailed you can email us and a real person will reply within a few hours.
We collect only what we need to send your eSIM and support your trip, and we never sell your personal information. You stay in control of your details and can ask us to update or remove them at any time. The full details are set out in our privacy policy, which is written to be read, not skimmed.
